Project Background There are established 3 monitoring points in Chisinau (Budesti, Singera and Ciocana), but this is not sufficient in order to have an overall information about the state of all small streams and rivers around the capital. The importance given to the small streams is very insignificant.
Goals and objectives The goal of the project is to raise public awareness on the importance of the small streams protection and conservation and minimize the impact of pollution on water quality and to integrate the SOS methodology into the school programs. The proposed methodology for monitoring of the water quality in the streams is based on the biological monitoring (identification of the macro invertebrates in the streams). The methodology proved to be simple, inexpensive and proper even for schoolchildren.
